Rhyme Time Training for Early Years Workers

Wednesday 21 September, 9.30am - noon at Armadale Library

This training session will include an opportunity to view a live Rhyme Time session in Armadale Library and provide participants with information and tips on:

  • The importance of providing a quality Rhyme Time with your clientele
  • Session planning suggestions
  • Presentation of sessions
  • Incorporating props into Rhyme Time

This training is suitable for people who work with children at libraries, childcare, playgroup leaders, education assistants and any related group in the Armadale Early Years Network.

Participants can book for both the Rhyme Time and Story Time Training sessions, or just one session. Lunch is provided for those attending both.

Story Time Training for Early Years Workers

Pirate Party

Come along to this pirate party. There will be a special pirate storytime, followed by treasure map craft, and finally a treasure hunt.

Living according to our values throughout our lifespan

This is a men’s only workshop.
Thursday 29 September, 5.15 - 7.30pm at Armadale Library

Is there a gender difference in the challenges to lifetime health and well being? Hear the strategies that can be used to overcome these during the workshop.

Anglicare WA counsellor, John Walker, will discuss how the stages of adult development impact on men’s capacity to maintain a positive outlook and remain engaged with life, family, friends and community.

This is a Positive Ageing session.

Recycled Art

Friday 30 September, 2 - 4pm at Armadale Library

This hands on workshop for teens and young people will take common household waste items such as plastic bottles, and turn them into beautiful art.

Calvin Chee has been an artist for ten years and has experience across a number of mediums including sculpture, painting, illustration and puppetry.

This session is suitable for 12 to 17 year olds.

Lego at the Library

West Oz Wildlife

Landcare in the Upper Canning River Catchment

Dental and Denture Care

Dental students from UWA School of Dentistry will discuss topics relating to ageing and managing oral hygiene including:

  • Brushing and flossing techniques.
  • Mouthwashes, smoking and alcohol.
  • Denture care, problems and mouth conditions.
  • Nutrition.
  • Dental visits.

Adventures in Time at the Museum

Thursday 6 October, 10am - noon at History House Museum

Come to the Museum these school holidays and join us for Adventures in Time!

Create your own sundial, make a decorative personal timeline, construct your own hourglass, or make all three.

Alphabeticus

Making the alphabet fun for kids

Monday 10 October, 9.30 - 10.30am at Seville Grove Library

The film Alphabeticus is a local production that partnered with Edith Cowan University and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. The film aims to make reading and writing easier and more enjoyable for children.

Alphabeticus tells the story of a magical kingdom which is home to the alphabet. There is a cast of characters that children will love including a princess, her evil uncle, and a knight.

This session is for parents and carers who want to learn new ways to help their children with reading and writing.

Need help with technology?

Students from Kelmscott Senior High School and Dale Christian School will be available to assist you with your technology troubles.

Any questions about your laptop, iPad, tablet, mobile phone or digital camera can be solved by these technology savvy youngsters.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness allows us to address difficulties in a calm and creative way, as opposed to reacting to them. Mindfulness enables us to be more present in situations where automatic pilot often prevails.

Boogie Babes

Two sessions are available:

Join Kylie from Boogie Babes for an interactive and highly energetic musical playgroup session. A variety of fun props are used to encourage movement, dance and social interaction with other babies and toddlers. Parents get to join in and have fun too!

Pre-Writing

Discover your characters and evolve your story

Monday 17 October, 6.30 - 7.30pm at Armadale Library

Be prepared before you tackle National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and join us for this session to learn some pre-writing techniques.

Pre-writing involves developing a better sense of your characters and giving greater thought to story structure.

Rebecca Laffar-Smith, the NaNoWriMo municipal liaison officer for the south-east Perth metropolitan area, will answer any questions during this session.

This session is proudly presented by Write Along The Highway as part of National Novel Writing Month.

Learning English Through Storytime

LETS (Learning English Through Storytime) workshops assist families to improve and practice English in a fun educational environment.

LETS sessions include songs, rhymes and stories plus interactive activities which develop children's confidence and school readiness.

The program is suitable for children aged three to four years and their carer’s. Adults should be able to speak basic English as parents and children participate in the activities together.

This program will run for seven weeks, every Monday, 1.30 - 2.30pm at Kelmscott Library

Starting Monday: 17 October, 24 October, 31 October, 7 November, 14 November, 21 November, 28 November.

Step into Volunteering

Are you interested in volunteering but aren't sure how to get started?

The physical and emotional roller coaster of menopause

Thursday 20 October, 5.15 - 7.30pm at Armadale Library

Dr.Ken Nathan, Dr. Hervinder Kaur and Dr. Ljiljana Ilic Jeftic from Armadale Health Service will discuss:

  • What is menopause?
  • Is HRT an option for me?
  • The physical and emotional rollercoaster of menopause.
  • Staying healthy at menopause and beyond.

This session is available to all adults. In order to gain better understanding of menopause, we are encouraging women to bring their partners to this presentation.
