Birtwistle Local Studies Library is a comprehensive source of information and photographs relating to the history of the district.
The library is named after eminent journalist Ivor Treharne Birtwistle (1892 – 1976), editor of The Western Mail newspaper and founding member of the Royal Western Australian Historical Society.
Birtwistle, an Armadale- Kelmscott Shire Councillor, made a strong commitment to our district’s history and heritage, culminating in the building of History House Museum in 1976. His personal collection, donated to History House Museum following his death, formed the core of the Local Studies collection at its 2006 launch.
Do you have photographs, diaries, books or family documents that relate to the history of the City of Armadale? The Librarian at Birtwistle Local Studies would be pleased to hear from you.
