Family History Research

Birtwistle Local Studies Library can assist people with researching their family history. Friendly, experienced volunteer genealogists available every Tuesday afternoon, plus Thursday mornings (bookings are essential).

  • Family history databases are available during the Birtwistle Local Studies Library's regular opening hours (Phone to check on availability of computers).
  • Many resources are available to help locate ancestors, and to aid learning about their lives. These include books, microfiche, CD-ROMs and Family History packs.

Family History Assistance

Family History research assistance is available on Tuesdays between 1pm to 5pm, and on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month by appointment.

The genealogy databases Ancestry and Find My Past are now available for public use in the Birtwistle Library. Phone 9394 5641 to check availability of computers.

Family Tree Group Meetings

The Family Tree Group allows like-minded people to discuss their family history research projects while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.

Held on the last Thursday of each month at 10am in the Armadale Library Meeting Room, these meetings are open to anyone interested in researching their family history. Invited guest speakers are a feature of these gatherings.
