AWA 2021

This is a creative writing competition open to adult writers living in Western Australia. Works must be original unpublished prose and have a 1000 - 3000 word count. 
 
The Armadale Writers’ Award will open and accept online entries from 1 - 30 September 2026.  
 
The cash prizes for each category are:

Prizes

1st Prize $1500
2nd Prize $1000
3rd prize $750
Plus, seven finalists will receive a $50 book voucher.
   
Local Writer Prize  $500

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this writing competition a Local Writer Prize will be awarded to the best entry by an entrant with a residential address in the City of Armadale. This may be awarded in addition to the above-mentioned prizes.

These will be presented at a private award ceremony.

Judging

Entries will be judged by a panel of librarians and authors. The judges will be seeking originality of themes, plot development, story structure and overall quality of writing.

Individual feedback cannot be provided.

Entries must be the entrant’s original work and must not be copied, adapted, or derived from any other source. This includes the use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tools or software to create, generate, or assist in the preparation of an entry.

Entries that fail to meet the requirements as laid out in the Terms and Conditions will not qualify for a prize. The promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding this matter.
